NDIS Micro-Business Support in Rural and Remote Australia

By Leah Justyce  ·  6 November 2026

Participants in rural and remote Australia often have far fewer specialist NDIS providers nearby -- but support delivered online removes location as the limiting factor for building a micro business. A participant in regional Victoria, outback Queensland, or remote Western Australia can access exactly the same participant-directed support as someone in a capital city.

The real gap in regional and remote areas

It is well documented that choice of provider narrows significantly the further a participant is from a major centre, particularly for specialist capacity-building supports rather than more common daily supports. Building a real business -- with a working website, a shop, booking systems -- requires a specific skill set that is simply less available locally in most regional and remote areas.

How online delivery closes that gap

Because this support is delivered entirely online, a participant's location stops being the deciding factor in who they can work with. Sessions and calls happen by video, decisions are made together at the participant's own pace, and the actual building -- the website, the systems, the social accounts -- is grown together at whatever balance suits the participant, live rather than as homework.

What to confirm with your plan manager

Rural and remote participants should confirm with their plan manager or support coordinator that their plan supports an online, unregistered provider for this kind of capacity-building work, and that travel is not assumed as part of the cost -- because with online delivery, there isn't any.

This support is available to participants anywhere in Australia, including rural and remote areas. Read more on the NDIS micro business support page.
